Memories of Dan Bryan

Dan and I became friends our senior year. I ended up with so many memories of Dan and he influenced my life in so many ways I'm not sure where I could begin. I listen to music differently because of Dan, I experience the outdoors differently thanks to Dan, I appreciate women differently courtesy of Dan (he set me up with at least three girlfriends)! The simple pleasures are Dan's specialty and his ability to appreciate them and share them are my favorite memories of him.

Dan -- You, Bugsy, Mike Joyce, and I were like the four musketeeers in a foggy in haze in '74 and '75. I have many good memories of New Years Eve parties and cruising around town in your folks' truck or Ackers' camper, trying to get as laid back as possible. I also remember attending every MHS football game with you in '74, including the road games -- much fun. I had a great deal of respect for your talents on the printing press, in the darkroom, and behind the camera -- you were very visually creative. What I remember most, though, is how much fun we had laughing "with" life, enjoying nature, and trying to get girls. As I think back now, I have a big smile on my face.

When I first met Dan, I thought he looked pretty dangerous - with the long hair and army coat - plus the fact that he looked about ten years older than the rest of us! However, after getting to know him, I realized that he was REALLY DANGEROUS (only kidding!) I have lots of memories of parties in a variety of locations, including many at the lake. I think it's way cool that our 16 year olds have been good friends since birth - kinda' carrying on the traditions......

2001 Update

Spouse: Janis

Children:
  • Clint, 16
  • Cole, 13
Occupation: Printer

Occupation of Spouse: Printing

What's New: After graduation, I went to work for a printing company in Davenport, IA. I returned to Macomb after a year and a half and went to work at Jomlee Printing, where I met my future wife, Janis. We got married in 1981 and immediately moved to Oregon and never looked back. We continue to find the Pacific Northwest a great place to live and raise our boys. We are still exploring the mountains, coast, high desert, rivers, and forests of Oregon and appreciate the diversity of the area and the attitudes of its residents.

I am currently entering my 20th year of employment at Sterling Business Forms. For the last 3 years, I have been production manager, which means I work more and get paid less, but I am still enjoying the challenge. Janis works part-time at the local newspaper in the commercial printing division and volunteers with the Ashland Schools Foundation, in addition to running the kids everywhere.

Right now, our time is spent going to basketball, football, soccer and track events in addition to band and orchestra concerts. We look forward to someday resuming touring the Northwest on my BMW motorcycle.
