Memories of Christy Dye
Christy was (and still is) one of my best friends. As far back as the sixth grade, she had a crush on me. I was her family's paperboy, and she used to sit in front of the house waiting for me to deliver the Macomb Daily Urinal. We tried dating in high school, but it was awkward (she laughed every time I tried to kiss her - great for the ego). So we decided to be just good friends (and I dated her sister Ginny instead). During our senior year, Christy, Suzanne Whitehead, Jon McKee, and I were like the partying Four Musketeers. I have many good (and some foggy) memories of Boot Hill Saloon, Lake Argyle, writing a feature column together for our Journalism I project ("Reed or Dye"), Macomb Community Theater meetings, a wild Thespian Conference at U of I, cloudy zone-out sessions in my Henninger and Olson Hall rooms, and the great escapes from study halls and those 3:30pm school assemblies. That's just the tip of the iceberg. Call me sentimental, but those were the days. Now, if I could just get her to e-mail me...

Christy shared one of the most special summers of my life in '76. Music (12 string guitar usually) at Geoff Williams (Polly's older brother), partying with the nude Cliff Divers (Neil Pederson, Sam Thurow, Dan Bryan, Karl Hanke, Jim Heintz, etc..) at the Quarry and Vishnu Springs, picnicing in the graveyard, hiking all over Chicago in a day. These were just some of the moments - I can't imagine what we could have done if we had more time to share. I'll never forget you Christy!
(Ted Raymond, September 1999)
I was part of the class of '76 in spirit, even though I moved away in the 6th grade. I remember Christy best in the 4th grade in Mrs. Campbell's class at Logan Elementary. Long braids and a plastic headband....always! I seem to remember her always having a great sense of humor, although it almost got us into trouble when someone played a trick on our new classmate, April Stein, who had just moved to town..someone wrote "April Fool" on the blackboard and everyone who "confessed" to laughing had to stay after school...
