Memories of Jerry Peters

I'm still embarrassed about the face-to-face I had with Jerry in 1996 at the reunion. It was the Friday night gathering at the Pace and Christy Dye and I were staffing the check-in table and handing out name tags. It was fun and a bit nerve racking, because Christy and I were making a game of it, trying to guess who everyone was before they told us their name. So Jerry walked up and we couldn't guess (he had a full beard...) but he wouldn't let me off that easy. He said, "I was on a bowling team with you in Junior High." (remember the Saturday morning bowling league at College City Bowl?). So I was trying to think who else was on "Gumbart's Rockets" besides Rich Wallen, Rich Pollock, and Tim Pedersen. I had completely blanked Jerry out of that bowling experience. So I said, "Roy Roth!" Jerry said, "do I really look like Roy Roth?" (no offense Roy). Finally he revealed his identity and Christy and I shouted, "JERRY!" (like we should have all along). I don't think I'll ever forget what Jerry looks like again (unless I don't see him again until the 50th reunion!)

But seriously, Jerry, I, and his brother Gene hung out together during our junior high days. I remember we used to ride bikes together to Edison. What I remember most about Jerry was his easy-going attitude and that laugh. Always a big smile! You're still pretty cool Jerry!
