Memories of Roger Thorman
I knew Roger pretty well, we rode the bus together for several years, played football for 4yrs and ran around with him during high school and after. My best memories of Roger were during the game we dedicated to his brother, Terry, who had suffered a neck injury in a diving accident. Roger was playing his heart out, got a couple of penalties, he was getting some heat from some of the guys, he told them to shut up. I just gave him a pat on the butt, and quietly told him too suck it up, play tough. We won the game. The next day we took Terry the game ball at the hospital in Peoria. On the way Roger told me that if we had lost that game because of one his penalties he would have killed himself. Luckily it didn't come to that. After high school we would go out and party together, hangout, just kick around trying to decide what in the world we would do with our lives. I moved to the Peoria area to follow the person that would become my wife. Not long after that I learned that Roger had been killed trying to beat a train going to work. To make things worse, I didn't hear about it until a couple of months later. I didn't want to get in touch with his family, to open some fresh wounds, so I didn't. I was really saddened by his loss, I will always have good memories of Roger. I just wish that he could have been around longer.
